Facilities:


College has its own spacious campus at Lakhanpur. The building consists of one triple storied structure constructed in an area of 32 kanals.

HOSTELS:

 

 Vivekananda College has provision of hostels for both boys and girls. At present the College has two hostels namely 'Sharda Hostel for Girls' and ‘Ramakrishna Hostel for Boys’. Hostels have spacious airy and well ventilated rooms with mess, warden room and dining cum common room. . Hostels have mess to provide hygienic and fresh food. Resident wardens look after the Hostel. Proper security arrangements are ensured round the clock. Admission to hostel is compulsory for all girls coming from places at a distance of 40km and more. Our hostels are true examples of 'HOME AWAY FROM HOME' Lively atmosphere is provided in hostels with all the facilities of recreation.

 

CONVEYANCE FACILITY:

 

 The College has its own buses for bringing students and teachers from Kathua, Pathankot and adjoining areas to the institution.

 

MEDICAL FACILITY:

 

 The College has a dispensary for students and the staff for providing 'First Aid Facility' in times of emergency and for minor troubles.

 

WATER & ELECTRICITY FACILITY:

 

 Water facility is self managed by the College (4 inch water bore) along with two 15KV and 7.5KV generators which are used in the absence of electric supply. Water coolers with aquagaurd facility have also been provided to supply clean, fresh and cold drinking water to the students.

 

SPECIAL ROOMS:

 

(i) Science Lab: Laboratory has sufficient material and equipments for science experiments. The students are given training to perform experiments as well as to develop apparatus for use as teaching aids. Many new apparatus have also been added for providing adequate knowledge.

 (ii) Psychology Lab: Psychology is science and science is based on keen observation experimentation and generalization. Keeping in view the importance of the subject and to impart practical knowledge a psychological laboratory has been established in the college.

 (iii) Music Room: The College has facility for vocal as well as instrumental music with sufficient number of musical instruments under the guidance of trained teacher.

 (iv) Educational Technology Lab.: Laboratory is well equipped with Computer, multimedia as well as T.V., V.C.R, Tape Recorder, OHP, Sound Systems and LCD Projector.

(v) Computer Lab: Laboratory is well equipped with Computers, Printers & Scanner. Internet facility is also available in computer Lab .

(vi) Workshop Room: The room has various models and teaching aids in different Subjects developed through a process of training and competition under the guidance of trained teacher.

(vii) Physical Education Room: The College has sufficient playing material for students different games such as Cricket, Volleyball, football, Badminton, Kho-Kho etc. along with the playground on the campus.

(viii) S.St. Room: The room has various non-working and working models, charts, maps, globes etc. with help the students to comprehend the subject fully.

 

LIBRARY:

 

The College is gradually building up the library. Presently the total number of books including the reference books in the library is 9,334. Some foreign publications have also been added to the library . The College library has books in all teaching subjects along with large number of general and reference books. Besides, the College subscribes 10 daily newspapers, 12 educational journals and 8 other magazines in English and Hindi for the benefit of students and staff members. The library has a separate reading room for the benefit of bonafide college students and it remains open during vacations as well as after the college hours also.

 

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:

 

 On academic side, the College has brought laurels to itself by its excellent performance in academics, right from its inception. Every year, the pass percentage and number of distinctions have registered an upward trend. The college once again proved its supremacy in the academic field bagging 209 1st divisions in theory & Practice. The College has got pass percentage of 82.32 % in the session 2009-10. Main academic activities, which are the regular feature of the college are: Micro Teaching, Macro Teaching & Internship, Preparing Teaching Aids, Workshops, Unit Tests, Comprehensive Tests, Assignments, Brain Storming & Panel Discussion Sessions, Students' Seminars. Projects, Experimental Administration & Teaching by students for a day and Workshops on Preparation for Examinations. Besides it, a number of Extension Lectures by eminent educationists and teachers are Organized during the session. At the end of the session, a National Seminar is organized for the benefit students & staff members.

 

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

 

 The College is known all over the northern India for its curricular and co-curricular Activities. The college provides ample opportunities for catharsis of the students by organizing Various co-curricular activities from time to time. The main co-curricular activities and functions Which are generally organized in a session are: Inaugural Function of the new session, Freshers' Day, Talent Hunt Show, N.S.S. Camp, Vivekananda Jayanti & Lohri Festival, Cleanliness Day, Republic Day-cum-Annual Day of the College, Science Day, Languages Day, Social Sciences Day, Kavi Darbar, Sports Day, Study Tour, Inter-House Competitions, Inter-College Competitions, Prize Distribution-cum-Farewell Function and Independence Day Celebrations. Besides it, a number of religious functions and Jayantis of great leaders are celebrated in the college to orient the students about Indian sanskriti and civilized. A special feature of the college is to organize Saturday-Specials which includes Debates/Symposium by each and every student of the college on a topic, Black-Board writing Practice, Practice in Preparing Teaching Aids and Special Items of the House.

 a) The College has been recertified from ISO-9001-2008 b) The College has been Accreditated as “B” grade College with 2.56 CGPA by National Assessment & Accrediation Council of India.

 

ADMISSIONS:

 

 A College admission committee assists the students in filling the admission form and provide necessary guidance to then in selecting teaching as well as optional subjects according to their field and interest. Main functionaries of this committee are: Mrs. Madhu Gupta, Mrs. Anjana, Mrs. Alka, Mr. Vijay Gupta and Mr. Ravikant

 

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:

 

Academic Activities committee will fix the dates for micro­- teaching, macro-teaching and internship, preparing teaching aids, workshops, unit tests, comphrensive tests, assignments, brain storming projects, experimental administration, and teaching by students for a day and workshops on preparation for examination. Besides it, a number of extension lecturers by eminent educationists and teachers will be organized during the session by this committee. It will also organize a National seminar for the benifits of students and staff members at the end of the session. Main functionaries of this committee are: Ms. Alka, Mrs. Neena & Mrs. Sureshta.

 

COLLEGE MAGAZINE:

 

 The college magazine "Vivek Dhara" is published every year to Provide opportunity to the teacher and students to exercise and display their creativity. The magazine consists of Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, English and college news sections. All activities related to this are monitored by 'College Magazine Committee'. Main functionaries of this committee are: Mrs. Anjna , Mrs. Gurmeet & Ms. Shivani.

 

DICIPLINE:

 

Discipline is very important in the teaching-learning process. To maintain discipline a 'Discipline Committee' has been formed in the college. The committee suggests punishments for the students found guilty of breach of discipline. Main functionaries of this committee are: Mrs. Alka Kumari, Mrs. Madhu Gupta and Mr. Vijay Gupta.

 

CAMPUS DECORATION:

 

 The main functions/objectives of this committee is to maintain the beautification of the campus. Main functionaries of this committee are: Mrs. Gurmeet, Mrs. Neena and Ms. Shivani.

 

CURRICULUM DIVISION:

 

 This committee will divide the syllabus into monthly units prior to be beginning of the session with the help of subject experts keeping in view the number of teaching days available to organize the curricular activities systematically. Moreover , the committee will also prepare weekly plan, consisting of topic to be covered During a particular week in the 'Teacher's diary' with the help of concerned subject teachers.Main functionary of this committee is: Mrs. Madhu, Mrs. Anjana and Ms. Shivani.

 

 ALUMNI ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE:


In order to have life long relationship with the students and interact with the institution and fellow students, the college in collaboration with old Students has decided to form an 'Alumni Association'. For this' Alumni Association Committee' has been formed in the college. Main functionaries of this committee is: Mrs. Madhu, Ms. Shivani, Mrs. Neena & Mrs. Sapna.
